Gewalt

Berlin-based band Gewalt condenses in most radical tongues the impossibility and inescapability of human existence. Perhaps it is the most intense performance you can find in contemporary art and culture. No wonder why Jason Williamson of the Sleaford Mods picks Gewalt as one of his favorite current bands, and Jack White asked them to support his tour in Germany. About their debut album, ‘Paradies’, Gewalt says it is a clash and collision of chaos and order. It’s as if Gewalt is bursting through the seams. Around us bodies shake, expressions of abandon, layered in shadows, beautiful and strange as if to say “We are machines. We are fragile. We are the many and we dance alone. We embrace our loneliness.” The air is ripe with love, a love we never knew. Sex, sadness, and euphoria. Madness is our Paradise. We have no expectations, other than it be dazzling and true for one flickering fading moment. The beauty of the sun about rise, or perhaps never to be seen again.
