Ditty’s new single “Mamma” explores the theme of oneness– that also runs through her current EP “Skin”. We are one with the Earth. We are made of the same stuff. Mamma is an outright apology and love letter to ourselves, our communities and the Earth. It’s a call to action, a manifesto. Drawing its strength from radical softness, it gains momentum with a tasty beat and ends with a collective refrain, ‘make forests not war’.
“I was asked why I am not writing more love songs. I am writing them – and Mamma is one. In the few decades I lived yet, life feels so different to my childhood. Life as we know it, exists in this tiny sphere on the Earth. And we continue to look for life elsewhere, whilst it slips from under our feet. Whilst our magnificent planet that's alive, turns into glass and concrete. I'd like to sing for the rivers, the mountains, the little butterflies, the snow, I'd like to sing for the glaciers that are melting, the mighty tigers that vanish, the humble ants, the forests and the great barrier reef, the colossal waters that flow from clouds to rivers to the ocean into each other. I would like them to hear, ‘I will stand beside you’.”
